HP, DELL, Apple Owner Combined Lawsuits
Last Updated on Thursday, 14 May 2009 06:49 Written by richardcqz Thursday, 14 May 2009 06:49
HP, DELL and Apple combined 5 different lawsuits against NVIDIA over defective GPUs that were shipped in possibly millions of computers.
DELL has release modified the BIOS in an attempt to keep the GPU from overheating but this will cause another affect is the reduces battery life and computer performances.
NVIDIA’s defective GPUs cause consumers’ computers to underperform, to display corrupted images (including distorted images, lines, garbled characters, and artifacts), to overheat, and even to suffer complete monitor/display and system failure.
All the complaint which HP, DELL and Apple receives are all the affected GPU is all the laptops that were affected. As the text of the combined lawsuits (.PDF) state:
Exacerbating matters, NVIDIA is trying to avoid a recall by having its OEM
(“Original Equipment Manufacturer”) partners recommend consumers download and install a
“BIOS update,” which turns on the computer’s fan more frequently or continuously. This is a
grossly inadequate “remedy,” as it results in additional manifest defects, including, without
limitation, further degraded battery life, system performance and increased noise in the Class
Computers.Worse, this “remedy” fails to solve the actual problem. Instead, this measure only
ensures that the Class Computers will fail after the OEM’s express warranty period expires,
potentially leaving consumers with a defective computer and no immediate recourse. Finally,
even after using this purported “update,” video and system performance is still degraded due to
unacceptably high heat and part failures.
All the plaintiffs are seeking class action status for the lawsuit, and and if the suit is successful, that NVIDIA replace the faulty chips and pay unspecified damages.

Asus Eee PC 4G
Last Updated on Thursday, 1 May 2008 04:44 Written by richardcqz Thursday, 1 May 2008 03:30

Asus first released low cost and low power Eee PC in the fall of 2007 with a 7″ inch screen, 4GB solid state hard drive and a custome Linux based system with preinstalled software such as Firefox and Open Office. While it became a cult hit (Asus says it will have sold 5 million units worldwide by the end of 2008), the lack of a Windows-based operating system kept some shoppers away.
The company promised a Windows version was in the works, but in the meantime, other PC makers saw the potential for inexpensive small laptops, and we’ve seen Hewlett-Packard’s 2133 Mini-Note and an revamped version of Intel’s Classmate PC run Windows with similar hardware, creating a new category people are calling mininotebooks or Netbooks.
