All too often the musically inclined seem to feel a bit left out of the Linux, open source community. At least that was the way for a long time. And then came along a few new tools and a few recording-specific distributions (such as 64 Studio and Linux Multimedia Studio ) and the open source music world was turned on its head.

There have been a lot of users complaining about the new Ubuntu 9.10 splash screen. First users are complaining that cosmetically it looks unprofessional and tacky. Second, there is no obvious way to configure this splash screen

Recently I covered the MySQL GUI tool MySQL Administrator (see the article “ Create a database with MySQL Administrator “). However, this tool was just given the official EOL (End of Life) announcement by the MySQL dev team. Although this is sad news for a tool that had recently become my standard for working with databases, this death knoll has lead me to another, even better, tool MySQL Workbench
